I am wanting any information on George Michael Haizman/Heitzman (b. 1809)in Germany and died in 1865 in Wabash Co., IL. His wives were Katherine Kiser and Agatha Link. I have fairly concrete evidence from the German immigration records on Johann George Gutekunst(Goodart) and Johanna Gottliebin Reichert that George Michael was Johanna's son, born to her before she married John George in 1817. When the family came to America in 1833, they first came to Crawford Co, OH, and John George died there. By 1840 Johanna and her family are in Wabash Co. Can anyone help untangle this? There is also mention of another child or two Johanna may have had before she married John George. I'm looking for any information. My mother Juanita Ruth Wood was born in Mt. Carmel in 1904 to Asa Shadle Wood and Sarah Ellen (Trunks) Wood. She had one brother, John Austin Wood, born 1896; a sister, Mable Irene Wood, born in 1898, and a sister Nina Mildred Wood, born in 1906. Her father,Asa,was born in Mt. Carmel in 1874 to Marion Francis "Frank" Wood (born 1852 in Wash. Co., IN) and Emily Jane (Shadle) Wood (born 1853 in Friendsville). Frank and Emily were married in Mt. Carmel in the early 1870's. Her mother,Sarah, was born Mt. Carmel in 1876 to John Rosson Trunks (born in Mt. Carmel in ?) and Nancy F. (Beanblossom) Trunks (born in 1856). Asa was a bricklayer and built several homes including four for his four children (for their adult life--these were rented out for income). Asa, however, died as a young man in 1909 and Sarah died in 1913 and the four homes had to be sold at a public auction. The four children were raised by John and Nancy Trunks. My mother would graduate from MCHS in 1923, marry Clarence A. Davis in 1924 and move to South Bend, IN. Her brother, Austin, would graduate from MCHS in 1915, marry Mary Elizabeth Hockgeiger "Mame" (from Friendsville) in 1916, move to Lawrenceville and deliver mail. Her sister, Mabel would marry Jerry Rader and move to South Bend, IN. Can anyone tell me if Coffee Cemetery in Keensburg has a caretaker with an address that I can write to, or if there is a transcribed list of burials in this cemetery. The tombstone transcription Project has only a couple names listed for this cemetery and I know there are many more people buried there. I am looking for my aunt's burial place and I'm pretty sure it's in this cemetery. She was Myra or Myriah Wheeler born to Fred and Ada Wheeler, Keensburg, Illinois Wabash County, around 1908-1912, and died when quite young. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank You.

I found a post on your board from an Alice Walter, (alicew@bscn.com)who was inquiring about Hallock Hallick surname, from 1860 and 1850 Wabash County census in Mt. Carmel Township. I came to your website seeking the same information, only I did not even have the Hallock names she requested information about. All I had was that my grandmother, Gertrude Asenith Newkirk's mother's maiden name was Hallock, and she was called Mattie. Since this query I ran across on your site indicates that Martha, child number 6 in the list from the census was eight years old in 1860; and my grandmother, Mattie's daughter, was born in 1800, that means Martha would be about 28 when my grandmother was born; if she is the same Hallock. So, see, even if you returned a blank on my search for a Newkirk inquiry, you served me admirably anyway. At least I think I'm in the right county, township and state! According to my grandmother, Gertrude Asenith (see even the name matches), her father's name was Rufus Newkirk, her mother's name was Mattie Hallock. Mr. Rufus Newkirk supposedly owned a grocery/merchantile store, either in or near Friendsville, IL. My dad thought her grandfather or great-grandfather's name was Christopher Newkirk. It was his understanding that her branch of Newkirks originally came from Kentucky, and were Confederate "sympathizers" while my grandad Mundy's family were loyalist "damyankees" from Pennsylvania. I note that the Hallock's originally came to Illinois from New Jersey and PA. You've refueled my enthusiasm to keep on with my research. So you will probably be hearing from me again. My maiden name was Mundy. My dad was William Ray Mundy, the oldest son of Verner Clarence(or as we knew him Clarence Vernor, Vern or C.V.)Mundy and Gertrude Asenith Newkirk. They both grew up in Mt. Carmel, attended schools there, and were married there 14 Jan 1903. My grandad, Vern Mundy was the second of six children born to William Hardin Mundy and Carodile "Carrie" Best in Mt. Carmel. She and her husband are buried side by side in the Gard's Point Cemetery. William Hardin Mundy died in 1887, in 1899 Carodile married Edwin S. Haupt, and they moved into Mt. Carmel, at 1217 N. Mulberry Street. Edwin S. Haupt died in 1921,and is buried at Highland Memorial Cemetery. Carodile died in 1921, and was buried next to the father of all her children at Gard's Point Cemetery. When Gertrude Newkirk and Vernor Clarence Mundy were married at Mt. Carmel, Illinois, they departed immediately after to return to Colorado where my grandfather was working for a farmer near Eastonville. They later bought land near the Elbert County line to the west, and reared their family there until Gertrude's death in 1954. Thank's for letting me share my joy with you for your "inadvertent" help. Now you have something to add to the Newkirk-Mundy history. My great aunts, great uncles and 2nd and 3rd generation cousins live in and around Mt. Carmel.I don't know if the Mundy Insurance and Real Estate Agency, Inc. is still in business. It was located at 400 Chestnut St., Mt. Carmel, and was at that time one of the oldest family-owned businesses in Wabash County. I believe you have a book in your library of the Mundy family history ... one of my references states it was from the Mundy Manuscript owned by Hurley Gould. There is another book "out there" by an Ezra Green Mundy which might be on file in your County Library. They kept better records than the later generations of Newkirk's apparently.
